Prof. Geoff ScamansMetallurgist, aluminium surface & recycling expertWe met Geoff whilst working on another STEM outreach project, where we needed help with a highly complex engineering challenge requiring a very high performing forged aluminium alloy whilst at the same time also wanting to explore the use of recycled materials within the project.
Geoff totally opened our eyes to recycling, the numbers involved and the energy that could be saved on a global scale - that was moment where we started to plan the Given Time project! Geoff is a world renowned expert in the recycling of aluminium alloys, he is a proponent of the concept that all the landfill sites dotted around the world are full of metals, plastics and other raw materials that could actually be mined, up cycled and used again! And we should apply the same thinking to the oceans! Not only should we stop polluting them, but all that waste can be collected, recycled and used again! We really wanted Geoff on board as a science advisor because he is an inspiration and he knows first hand the benefits of recycling and how industrial process and practice can change the way we make products in order to use more recycled materials, produce less waste and act in a more sustainable way! We want to share the best and worst of what we find but to also start a conversation on how we change the way we make consumer products to generate less waste and be more sustainable. So we are incredibly happy to have a global recycling and manufacturing process expert like Geoff on board to help us deliver that message! We don’t just want to highlight the problems our planet is facing, we want to talk about ways we can solve them and make changes for the better! https://www.innovaltec.com/geoff-scamans-aluminium-surface-expert/ http://www.brunel.ac.uk/people/geoff-scamans |
